Akkineni Nagarjuna

Forever young and stylish Akkineni Nagarjuna who is also known as Yuva Samrat, is an actor who needs no introduction in the South film industry. He has established himself as an actor, producer, TV host and an entrepreneur. The superstar, who is predominantly known for his work in the Telugu film industry, has also made a mark for himself in the Tamil and Hindi film industries as well.
Born on 29 August 1959, the 61 year old actor is the son of the yesteryear actor Akkineni Nageshwar Rao and his wife Annapurna. After completing his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan, he came back to India to pursue acting. He also did his Masters in Automobile Engineering from San Jose State University.

He married Lakshmi Daggubati and they have a son who is also an actor Naga Chaitanya. Later he fell in love and got married to his Shiva co-star Amala.
Nagarjuna debuted as a child artist in the films Velugu Needalu in 1961 and Sudigundalu in 1967, which starred his father Akkineni Nageshwar Rao in the lead role. Nagarjuna debuted as protagonist with the film Vikram in 1986.
He did several other hit films including Majnu, Sankeertana, Iddaru Iddare and Nirnayam. His film Aakari Poratam was a blockbuster. He was paired with Sridevi and Suhasini in the film. Nagarjuna’s career skyrocketed with Ram Gopal Verma directed film Shiva in 1989. Nagarjuna got critical acclaim for his versatility in the film. The actor debuted in Bollywood in 1990 with the same film.


His film Geetanjali was a commercial hit and also brought him a lot of critical acclaim. The film directed by Mani Ratnam also won a National Award. His career reached new heights with Telugu-Hindi bilingual movie “Criminal”. The film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Annamayya, which had Nagarjuna playing the titular role, set new benchmarks in the Telugu film industry. He played a historical character in the film and did a brilliant job. After having back to back hits, the Yuva Samrat turned TV producer with the Telugu Sitcom Yuva.
So far, the actor has worked in over 100 films. He also hosted the first three seasons of Meelo Yevaru Kotiswarudu. He is currently hosting Big Boss Telugu.
Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who also happens to be his daughter-in-law is always showering praises for Nag. In an interview, she said that “Nagarjuna is a bible on how to live life”.

About entertaining people Nagarjuna once  said that  " he always aspired to be a star and not an actor ". He is a great human being. Amla his wife says that her life so far has been like a beautiful journey. Akkineni Nagarjuna, along with his wife Amala, founded the Blue Cross of Hyderabad which works for animal welfare
He is also one of the most educated actors in the film industry. Nagarjuna is known as the ‘Celluloid Scientist’, a title given to him considering his versatility in various genres in the film industry. He is a compassionate human being. He donated 25 lakhs to help daily wage workers during the corona virus pandemic.
Apart from being an actor, Akkineni Nagarjuna has been the brand ambassador for several companies and products. The star is an ambassador of several social welfare and awareness campaigns too. He also works to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS. Nagarjuna is among the highest tax payers in the country.
He is one of the founding members of the N3 Realty Enterprises, which is the major group that owns the N-Convention Center. He was one of the co-owner of “Mumbai Masters”, an Indian Badminton League and Mahi Racing Team India.
Nagarjuna has won 9 Nandi Awards so far which include films like  Ninne Pelladata , Annamayya, Prema Katha, Yuvakudu , Santosham, Manmadhudu, Sri Ramadasu, Rajanna. Ninne Pelladata won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. Apart from playing the lead actor he had also produced the film.
